Beowulf is the oldest recorded Saxon (specifically Danish,) epic.It chronicles the quest of the hero into strange and foreboding lands in his quest to save the common people through cunning and courage.This theme of salvation through glorious sacrifice is repeated throughout the work.

Find one passage from pp. 36-58 of the textbook in which the poem encodes the theme in an image, a statement, or a plot event. Reference the chosen passage by line number and a brief quotation.
